1. Ditch red meat

Many of you may be thinking, ‘What on earth has red meat got to do with the environment?’ Well, in fact, it has everything to do with the environment, as apart from the ethical side, the red meat, which not only causes deforestation but also releases high amounts of C02. In the farming of cattle, large amounts of land are needed to house the cattle, meaning the deforestation of landscapes, notably the Amazon rainforest. Instead of consuming red meat, you should eat tofu or other grains or pulses instead, as these are more beneficial for your health, as they have less fat in them, as well as being beneficial for the environment.

2. Reduce food packaging

Sometimes it’s not the food that we eat that is bad for the environment, but the packaging that it comes in. Almost everything we consume comes in plastic packaging that is single-use, meaning it’s not only wasteful, but it can also be bad for your health, as microplastics can enter food. It will be hard to avoid plastic completely; however, there are ways that you can reduce or cut plastic containers from your food. This includes going to the butchers and grocers and local stores which use recyclable and low-waste packaging, as well as choosing products that have the least amount of packaging or bulk buying options to reduce continuous waste. Not only does it kill local animals and species, but it also releases high amounts of c02  which contributes to global warming. Instead, opt for sunflower oil or even olive oil, as it is a better and healthier option.
